Project Overview
The Soldier Support Institute (SSI) is an organization dedicated to providing training, education, and development for soldiers. In 2019, I led the design of the SSI website as a UX/UI Designer. My goal was to create an accessible, user-friendly platform to support the Institute's mission. The website serves as a hub for information and resources for soldiers, staff, and the community.
The Problem
When I began working on the website in 2019, the existing website was outdated, difficult to navigate, and did not effectively serve the needs of its diverse user base. The information was not structured intuitively, and the design did not align with modern usability standards. The challenge was to create a new design that would streamline navigation, improve user experience, and adhere to the Army's strict branding guidelines.
The Solution
To address these issues, I focused on creating a website that was clean, organized, and easy to use. My role included:
Information Architecture: I restructured the website's content to improve navigation and information flow. This included creating clear categories and a streamlined menu structure.
Visual Design: I developed a modern, professional look that aligned with the Army's branding guidelines. This included updating the color scheme and typography for better readability.
User-Centered Design: I prioritized the needs of soldiers and staff, incorporating feedback from focus groups to tailor the website to their needs.
Responsiveness: I ensured the website was fully responsive, providing an optimal experience across all devices.
Accessibility: I designed the site to meet accessibility standards, making it user-friendly for all visitors.
Major issues and challenges I faced included balancing the Army's branding requirements with user-centered design principles and addressing the needs of a diverse audience. Through thorough research, user testing, and iterative design, I was able to deliver a website that met these objectives and provided a better experience for users.
